Should I get the HPV vaccine?

The HPV vaccine is recommended mainly for girls and young women and protects against the HPV types that cause most cervical cancers.

The HPV vaccine works best when given before exposure to the virus, which is why it is recommended for pre-teens and young people.

Older women may still benefit in some cases, so it is worth discussing your individual situation with a doctor.

Vaccination does not replace screening — regular Pap smears and HPV tests remain important even after vaccination.
