A colposcopy is a close examination of the cervix using a magnifying instrument, usually done after an abnormal Pap smear or positive HPV test.
A colposcopy lets the doctor view the cervix under magnification using a device called a colposcope, which stays outside the body.
It is commonly recommended to take a closer look after an abnormal Pap smear, a positive HPV result, or ongoing symptoms.
