How do I prepare for a Pap smear?
For a Pap smear, avoid intercourse, douching and vaginal products for about two days before, and try not to schedule it during your period.
Best results come when the test is done when you are not menstruating, ideally a few days after your period ends.
For roughly 48 hours before, avoid intercourse, tampons, vaginal creams or douching, as these can affect the sample.
Let your doctor know about any symptoms or previous abnormal results so screening can be planned appropriately.
